Today, 104 years ago, Abraham Basson was born in Protea Village, opposite where Kirstenbosch is today. Abraham was the General Overseer and Foreman in charge of the Lawn Section at Kirstenbosch. An article in the June 1978 issue of

Abraham (Awie) Basson: Reminiscences of a Loyal Foreman gives us some inkling of what it must have been like to be a worker in the early days of Kirstenbosch. In this photo, Abraham is on the extreme left.
