The Porcupine Lady

I thoroughly recommend a visit to the Porcupine Lady's website.

"In the furthest most corner of the Franschhoek valley lies a small magical vineyard. Here, the winemakers couldn’t help but notice that they regularly received visitors to their farm in the dead of the night.

Known for being somewhat left of conventional, the winemakers decided to honour these creatures, and so not only did they name a heavenly wine brand after them, but they decided to found The Porcupine Quest too.

Established to honour the Cape Porcupine, the Porcupine Quest aims to understand more about this animal and its role in promoting biodiversity in the Cape. As such Boekenhoutskloof is helping to fund a study by Christy Bragg, a PhD student at the University of Cape Town. Her four-year project on porcupines specifically investigates the effect that porcupine foraging has on different Cape ecosystems, like at Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape and in the Kalahari Desert as well as in Franschhoek."
